Saint John, NB — The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick’s Newcomer Connections hosted the second annual Newcomer Employment Champions [NEC] Gala on Friday, March 22, at the Delta Hotels by Marriott, Saint John. Representatives from more than 25 organizations attended the [NEC] Gala to celebrate the employers who took a step beyond the Intercultural Competency Training to support newcomers to grow and thrive in their organizations, thus becoming an employer of choice for newcomers.

The Red Triangle Award recognizes long and meritorious service, outstanding contributions and achievement in the community, while the Leader to Watch Award honours an individual who is a role model for other young adults in our community.

Atlantic Canada YMCAs to Provide Life-Changing Experiences for 1,300 Kids this Summer

[SAINT JOHN] – YMCA camps in Atlantic Canada are gearing up to offer transformative experiences for children this summer. With a focus on fostering friendships, nurturing self-confidence, promoting independence, and building resilience, YMCA camps have long been recognized as catalysts for positive growth in young individuals.

For many children, attending camp is a dream that can only be realized with the generous support of their communities. By giving the gift of camp, donors enable campers to develop a deeper appreciation for nature, their community, and most importantly, themselves.

From March 1 to April 30, YMCA branches across Atlantic Canada will unite in an ambitious initiative to send 1,300 kids to camp this summer. YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick launches 2024 Fundraising Campaign

Saint John, NB— The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick launched their 2024 Fundraising Campaign today. The annual campaign ensures everyone has access to Y programs and services – enriching the lives children, youth, adults, seniors, and families in southwestern New Brunswick.

In addition to the annual campaign, a transformational project was also announced, which will provide after school care and outdoor education at the Glenn Carpenter Centre.

Through this campaign, thousands of people will have access to the Y through summer day and overnight camp, licensed child care, youth mental health support, recreational activities, programs for seniors to stay connected, and health and fitness memberships, which include swimming lessons.

The goal for 2024 campaign is to raise $2 million, which will have a direct impact on more than 3,500 throughout southwestern N.B. The campaign also includes fundraising for construction at the Glenn Carpenter Outdoor Education

The expansion is a crucial step toward meeting the increasing demand for child care spots, as the Y currently faces a waitlist of almost 1,000 families seeking this essential service.

YMCA Newcomer Connections will host a Citizenship Reaffirmation Ceremony

Saint John, NB — On Thursday, May 25, during Citizenship Week, the YMCA of Greater Saint John’s Newcomer Connections is hosting a Citizenship Reaffirmation Ceremony to celebrate all newcomers who completed a huge milestone in their settlement journey by becoming a Canadian Citizen.
