Peace Week 2018 will take place on November 17-24. The YMCA of Greater Saint John is excited to offer a week full of peacemaking activities to the community

Mark you calendars for the annual Peace Medallion Breakfast on Wednesday, November 21st at the Delta. The event kicks off at 7:30 am and will honour local peacemakers in our community. Further event details and ticket information will be posted in the coming weeks.

YMCA Peace Week is a time when we celebrate the presence of peace in our communities, and reflect on the peace-building work that happens all year both inside and outside the YMCA. The YMCA believes peace is more than the absence of violence and conflict. Peace is the ongoing work of building and rebuilding conditions of fairness, inclusion, empathy, security, and respect for diversity. When Canadians embody the values of PEACE through our daily actions, we can build a better Canada. YMCA Peace Week calls people to “Build Community. Act for Peace.” When we act for peace, together we build stronger and healthier communities.

As part of YMCA Peace Week, YMCAs across Canada present the YMCA Peace Medal to individuals or groups who, without any special resources, status, wealth or position, demonstrate a commitment to the values of P-E-A-C-E through contributions made within their local, national or global community. This year marks the 31st Anniversary of the YMCA Peace Medal. Since 1987, more than 1,900 individuals and groups across Canada have been recognized for their peacebuilding work with YMCA Peace Medals. Many people and organizations do important peace-building work. Some have formal connections to the YMCA, while others live and work in our communities and have no current connection to the YMCA!

YMCA Peace Week activities include:
  • Youth Coffee House, November 17th at 6:00 pm, Saint John Regional Y
  • Peace Medallion Ceremony, November 21st at 7:30 am, Delta Brunswick
  • Yoga for Peace (open to public), November 24th at 1:00 pm, Saint John Regional Y
