Edward Kinney joined the YMCA in February of 2016. Half of his heart was blocked so he started doing the Y’s Cardiac Maintenance program.

He was scared at the beginning because he didn’t know if his heart was going to be able to handle it, but after learning that he was able to do things at a slower pace he started to gain confidence.

Kinney has come a long way since last February. Today he does weight training and walking on his own. On September 26, 2016, he weighed in 50 pounds less than he was when he joined the Y family.

His doctor has been able to cut some of his medication and his sugar levels have gone down. He was barely about to put his own shoes on, but now he can touch his toes. Kinney can walk on the treadmill for 70 minutes, which is something he never imagined he would be able to do.

He thanks YMCA Fitness Coach Vina and his wife for encouraging and helping him have a healthier life.
