Wherever you are in your fitness journey, a YMCA personal trainer can help you reach your fitness goals faster, and have more fun along the way. Is your workout getting stale? Are you looking to get to the next level? Or do you just need some help getting started? A YMCA personal trainer will work with you to create a workout plan tailored to meet your needs, and then help guide you through it.

You can register at our front desk and Margaret Trites will assign you to a personal trainer. It is possible to request a specific trainer. Our present personal trainers are:

Trainer: Alex Coffin


Background: Alex has his Master of Arts in Physical Education. He has studied in aquatic therapy and has been certified with the Aqua Arthritis program in the past so he is able to include training alternatives or options with the pool. He also coaches runners with the Saint John Track and Field Club so he can help you with any run-oriented goals. In the past, he has coached runners through his store and the Running Room.

 

Alex also has his Bachelor of Arts in Sports Psychology and prides himself in the motivational aspect of exercise. For personal training, he has worked closely with physiotherapists in dealing with clients experiencing back issues.

General Availability: Alex is available Tuesday to Saturday with time on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

 

Trainer: Lori Doyle

 

Background:

Lori has worked with many Personal Trainers over the past 27 years for her own personal fitness. Now that she is a Certified Personal Trainer at the YMCA, she loves helping people breakthrough the barriers that might hold them back from reaching their goals and living the healthy active lifestyle they desire.

Lori loves to work with clients who are new to the world of fitness and she loves motivating other people to improve their quality of life. Simply, book a consultation with Lori, a lot can change in a chat.

She likes to work primarily with older clients. Being a Certified Wellness Coach and Aquatics Instructor, Lori has plenty of ideas, tools and options to help you get from where you are to where you want to be!

If the Fitness Centre is not for you, that's OK, Lori has taught Aquafit and Aquastretch and is more than happy to work with you in the pool!

Trainer: Ken Jones

 

Background: Ken had been involved with physical therapy with the military for over 30 years. He stresses discipline but with a big smile. He has been a member of the YMCA since 1985. He always attracts a big crowd when instructing the Dusty Sneakers Group Fitness Class.

Trainer: Justin Kennedy

 

Background: Justin started training seriously 3 years ago for high school rugby. He likes to combine weight training with calisthenics. Justin values gradual progress and emphasizes consistency and discipline. He plans on pursuing a degree in kinesiology.

Trainer: Esh Yahav

 

Background: Esh has particular interest in proper form, technique and tempo when it comes to training. His motto is that it is not about what you do but how you do it.

Trainer: Sherry Fitzgerald

 

Background: Sherry has been in the fitness industry for over 26 years and she still wakes up feeling happy to go to work. She is a mother of two and has been married for over 20 years. Sherry majored in Sport and Exercise Psychology at University of New Brunswick and went on to study Nursing for two more years.

 

Sherry's philosophy as a professional Health and Wellness Advisor is that every client is a unique individual. As a new client, you’ll begin with a fitness assessment to determine what your goals, strengths, weaknesses, and needs are. From there, she will map a plan to get you where you want to go as efficiently as possible. No two people travel the same journey. She believes in a balanced, holistic approach that considers all aspects of your life to achieve complete health and wellness, including fitness, nutrition, stress management, emotional health, etc.

 

All abilities are welcome, including older adults and individuals with mobility issues, athletes, those living with chronic medical conditions, and those who wish to continue making progress after being discharged from physical therapy. Sherry feels that every client deserves, and can expect, her undivided attention during training sessions. Let Sherry show you how fun getting moving can be!

Trainer: Misty Miller

 

Background: Misty has been a personal trainer at the Saint John Regional Y since the doors opened in 2015. As a personal trainer, Misty believes in balance throughout the whole body. Misty can show you how to focus on individual muscle groups, and help you to strengthen and condition each muscle. She places a lot of importance on proper form, whether it be body weight exercises, strength equipment or free weights, and the importance of a proper breathing technique.

Misty also teaches a High Intensity Bootcamp and Omnia Functional Training, and applies her personal training techniques during these fitness classes. Fitness is her passion and she loves to share her knowledge with her clients. Misty believes the secret to staying happy and healthy is to enjoy what you’re doing, have fun with it, and never give up on yourself. Misty says to listen to your emotions as motivation in your workouts and always have a good playlist.

Trainer: Jared Wallace

 

Background: Jared graduated from Holland College for firefighting. He has always been active in sports and coaches basketball. He has been a member of the YMCA for 4 years and has been an employee for 2 years. He stakes his reputation on his reliability for client appointments.

 

General Availability: Evenings and weekends.


Trainer: Todd MacQueen

Todd began his career in the fitness industry 27 years ago working in personal training along with various sales, management and customer service jobs. He has also participated in organized sport including University NCAA 1 & CIAU hockey. Since 2001 he has been a Certified Personal Trainer with Can Fit Pro and a Sports Conditioning Coach with Twist Conditioning Inc.

Todd’s focus is to ensure that his clients become and stay educated, motivated and accountable, so that they may reach their fitness goals. He motivates his clients and encourages them to live by his motto:

“One body - One lifetime - Get moving!”
